Stentor coeruleus
These big blue ciliates are among the largest of the aquatic protozoans measuring up to 2 millimetres when fully extended.
They are trumpet shaped with cilia around the rim of the trumpet and on the body.
Stentor feed on bacteria and/or other protozoans and some of the smallest multicellular organisms, such as rotifers.
They are found in dimly lit water and will swim away from bright light showing negative photo taxis. We will advise by return e-mail if culture is not available
